The Gambia Imports One Billion Dalasi Worth Of Vegetables
According to Tom Senghore, an agricultural expert and specialist in horticulture, the Gambia spends one billion dalasis on the importation of vegetables.
This means that the country creates jobs for the countries where it imports these vegetables whilst depriving its own citizens those much needed job opportunities and economic growth at home.
“We are now in the vegetable growing season because the year has reach Autumn equinox (days getting shorter). Most vegetables grown in The Gambia do very well at this time of the year” Senghore said.
The Gambia is importing more than 1 billion dalasis worth for only vegetables. He encourages citizens to grow vegetables anyway to save some cash and in the process revive the broken economy.
Tom who used to work with the National Agricultural Research Institute of the Gambia believes that agriculture is the lead way that Gambians can revamp the economic situation of the country as well as support a healthier, better & good living conditions.
“You can reach to several stakeholders for technical support. Let’s do it together,,  Tom instructed.
